Here we are!! KNOWING ONE OF TEACHING APPROACH!! :D
NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING
1.
Approach
: Neuro-linguistic Programming
First, I want to explain about what NLP is. NLP is a set of techniques
for assisting effective communication based on people`s mind and how they
relate their brain to their thought and behavior. Based on H. Douglas Brown`s
book, Neuro in part of NLP is brain that concern to how people experience their life through
their five senses and represent the
experience into their mind through their neurological process (brain
processing). Linguistic in NLP part is language that used by people as well as
their reflects, based on their language experience. And programming, it is
the part in NLP that is a set of instruction about how people training to
speak, think, and act in their positive ways to release their potential and
reach their goal.
2.
Principles :
Neuro-linguistic
Programming has its own principle, there are :
1.
Outcomes.
2.
Rapport.
3.
Sensory
acuity.
4.
Flexibility.
5.
Mind
and body are in one system.
6.
Map
is not the territory.
7.
No
failure, just feedback and renewed opportunity.
8.
Non-conscious
mind is full of benefit.
9.
All
behavior has positive meaning.
10.
The
meaning of the communication is the response.
11.
Modeling
the best behavior makes the best result.
3.
These are the principles which are used for me to demonstrate the approach in my subject:
1.
Rapport.
Rapport is the sense of the comfortable interaction
between the teacher and students. It makes the meaningful communication because
the students feel comfortable to know each other.
2.
Sensory
Acuity.
Sensory acuity is the ability to using the senses to
communicate, to build the student`s map in learning language.
3.
Modeling
the best behavior makes the best result.
The best modeling will motivate the students to be
good students, and believe that they can be the best students who can reach
their goal well.
4.
No
failure, just feedback and renewed opportunity.
There is no failure in the learning and teaching, but
then the students get feedback from their teacher to know about their lack of
their task/work, and teacher helps them to make the good one task.
4.
Hand
Out, Material Sources, and Media
The media used for this class is text book. Hand out will be given to the
students. The handout is about
descriptive text. The contents are the explanation about descriptive text, how
to make descriptive text, the example, and the task. The material source is from Pakar Raya`s
book, titled “Let`s Talk” for Junior High School grade 7th.
5. These are the activities in the demonstration:
1.
Principle
1 : Rapport
“Ice Breaker”
For begin the
class, teacher will doing ice-breaker, and making students in pair for their 1st
task about information gathering. Students asking some questions to their
partner about “what do they want to do for this class” and after that they
present the information to the other students.
2.
Principle
2 : Sensory Acuity.
“Imagine the things”
Teacher will
guide the students for imagining something, by describing it and then giving
suggestion to the students about the “something”. Handout will be given to the
students, and then students doing task which is written in the handout in
pairs. The task is about describing
their partner`s physical appearance.
3.
Principle
3 : Modeling the best behavior makes the best result.
“Present the works”
After doing the tasks, teacher will make them into
some groups consist of 6 students, and then the students discuss about their
work, choosing the good one, and present it in front of the class.
4.
Principle
4 : No failure, just feedback and renewed opportunity.
“Feedback for the works”
Students in group sharing the opinion about the
presentation, then teacher giving feedback for the students who has presented,
and repairing the student`s lack in doing task.
6.
The Reflection :
a.
Implementation
First, teacher
comes to the class and then giving greetings for their students, and then
asking the about what they feel about that day. After that teacher make the
first task to the students in pairs. The students will ask their partner about
what they want to do for the class, and after that they will share their
friend`s opinion.
After that,
teacher will guide the students to enter the main material subject, it is
descriptive text. For intro, teacher asking the students to close their eyes
and guides them to imagine about their physical appearance. Teacher is
describing about personal appearance and then giving suggestions to the
students such as question “How can you feel it? Do you have imagined your own
face? How can you describe it? Please describe it in your mind.” Teacher may
give the new vocabulary for them such as “flat nose” or “pointed nose”,
“straight hair” or “curly hair”. Teacher giving the image about themselves, and
they can feel the image, and start to describe themselves. Then teacher gives
them handouts and also give them the 2nd task that will be done by the students in pairs.
The task is written in handouts, and it is about describing their partner.
After doing
the task, then teacher will divide them into some groups, consists of 6
students in each group. Students will discuss about their work and then the
students will choose the best work of
the members in the group that will be presented in front of the class.
The students
may give opinion about their friend`s work and teacher giving feedback to the
presentation. Teacher points towards the good works among the student`s
presentation as the good model for the other students. Teacher may repair the
mistakes but teacher doesn`t have to say “it is false” to the students, but “I
think it is better for you to make this (…..) “.
b.
Aims
at the Achievement
Language is produced from processing
information that is involving the senses as the media to get the information.
In NLP, good experience which had been done by the senses, such as think,
speak, listen, and acts, will make the good behavior, and good behave will
makes the good model that is needed for reaching the goal. The good model is
the best guide for students to reach their goal in learning. This can leads the
students to getting knowledge about the language form, and how can they
communicate to the other students using their own experience.
7.
Conclusion:
Neuro-linguistic
Programming approach is quite different from the other approach. It because the
suggestion that is set in NLP for the students is to convince them for
reaching their goal in learning. The
suggestion is not the theory but, this suggestion is applicable. Both teacher
and students act as they have made their own world by applying the suggestion
that make the positive experience for them. NLP is good enough to be applied in
school, especially in the secondary school because it important to know the
psychology of the students in their new period of learning English. In NLP, getting to know each other is
important because it will affect to the students` mind, how can they feel
comfortable in learn English with the understanding from their teacher and the
other students.
